Dutch Colonial Remodel
This 1920’s Dutch Colonial home in East Grand Rapids, Michigan enjoyed a reconfigured floor plan to suit the needs of a young family.
This thoughtful renovation transformed a charming 1920s Dutch Colonial into a vibrant and highly functional family home tailored to the needs of a young, busy family. The main floor was completely reconfigured to create a spacious, light-filled kitchen that flows seamlessly into the family room, establishing an open gathering space at the heart of the home. The foyer and main stairwell were opened up to create a more welcoming entry experience, while strategically placed skylights flood the kitchen with natural light. Architectural details such as custom arched doorways, new windows, and updated siding honor the home's historic character while introducing a fresh, timeless aesthetic.
Designed with both beauty and practicality in mind, the renovation includes a custom butler’s pantry that connects the kitchen and dining room through a pair of bespoke arched doors. A new powder room and mudroom addition provide essential everyday functionality, featuring dedicated storage closets for each family member to help keep busy schedules organized. With a passion for interior design, the homeowners embraced bold colors, playful patterns, and confident design choices throughout the home, creating a warm, energetic environment that perfectly reflects their family's personality and style.
